INJURIES
AND PREVENTING THEM
Sport injuries are a concern of all athletes, parents and coaches. Although
most injuries are usually minor ones such as sprains, bruises, etc., many
of them can be prevented from happening. In order to prevent them however,
you must understand what causes them.
Unlike the uncontrollable
incidents like collisions or falls that happen during sporting events,
most sprains, fractions and bruises are a direct result of the following:
-
lack of warm up
-
lack of stretching
-
lack of proper equipment or facilities
-
lack of knowledge of sport or exercise
-
fatigue
To help you prevent the pain
and suffering of sport and exercise injuries, follow these basic rules:
-
Get a physical exam at least once a year
-
Exercise and perform within your limit
-
Never engage in sports or exercises without proper instructions
-
Never stretch or exercise to the point of pain. If it hurts, stop!
-
Eat properly, drink plenty of water and get plenty of rest between exercise,
practice sessions or games.
-
Eat properly and stretch every day.
-
Always start and finish physical activity with a complete warm up and
stretch program
-
Always include some strength exercises in your training program to increase
muscle and joint strength.
The best way to treat injuries is to prevent
them from happening!
