5-Mile Family Bicycle Ride
North Andover Sheep Shearing Festival
May 23, 2004, 10:30am - Noon

Old Common, in front of the Printing Museum at 800 Massachusetts Avenue

Our Sheep Shearing Festival 5-Mile Family Bicycle Ride will travel on the shorter of the two Bicycle Routes through North Andover.  These were  proposed by the North Andover Bicycle Advocacy Committee working with Sgt. Fred Soucy, the North Andover Police Safety Officer.  They were approved by the North Andover Selectmen on January 7, 2002.  North Andover Bicycle Route 2 is a 5 mile loop starting at the Old Common and passing by Sargent School, Reynolds Field and James Swamp, Rea Farm and Drummond Playground, on the way back to the Common.  If there is interest, we may also travel North Andover Route 1, the 8 mile loop which also starts at the Common, but turns Northeast to tour by Town Farm, Smolak Farms, Bruin Hill and Foster Farm, before returning to the Common on Salem Street.

Thanks to Jeff Eagan for the great photos below of a previous Family Bicycle Ride.

We are currently sponsoring a Buy-A-Sign Bicycle Safety Program to purchase and install Share The Road Bicycle Signs along these routes.  Please see complete details at:

Starting out after the Merrimack Valley Striders 10K Running Road Race.

Leaving the Common after passing our first Bicycle Share The Road Sign.

We had a great crew of 26 riders, ages 4.5 to 65.

The shade on Salem Street was a pleasure in the 90 degree heat.

We want more shade!

Sharing the road on Salem Street.

Signaling a right turn into J&M Deli.

A stop for a refreshing drink at J&M Deli felt great in this heat.
